This talk will focus on the performance benefits of pre-workout supplements along with the potential downsides of regular use and safety implications, particularly for athletes. The talk will first cover the definition of pre-workout supplements and a summary of ingredients commonly found in these products. Following, we will discuss the purported benefits along with the rationale for use. Next, a summary of the literature regarding the acute and long-term performance benefits of pre-workout supplements will be discussed. Lastly, the potential safety implications and considerations for drug-tested athletes regarding pre-workout supplement use will be covered.
