Omega 3 deficiency is the world's largest nutrient deficiency at 80% of the globe while 95% of Americans are below baseline values. This presentation will provide an overview of the functions and application of Omega 3 intake from food and supplementation along with its role in athletic performance and brain health/concussion. Specifically, I will discuss the different types of Omega 3, the prevalence of Omega 3 deficiency, the Omega Index Test, and its application to disease management and sport. Furthermore, I will dive into the research on omega-3 supplementation in the treatment and management of concussion, its role in mitigating inflammation, along with its ability to improve strength and power. Recommendations on dosage guidelines from food and supplementation will be provided based on the research discussed above along with explaining the effectiveness of different forms of Omega 3 on increasing the Omega 3 Index.
